[Infrastructures] ITIL?

Sean, I can't argue with much (any?) of what Todd says, once you get
more deeply into ITIL. See my first comment for a simpler view. I forgot
to mention the Documentation aspect (tickets, change requests, etc.).

The trick--if any of it works for your company--is to use it as a
guideline, not as law. We've seen a lot of these things come and go over
the years (anyone remember Excellence! training?). If it becomes a
religion, you're doomed.
